December 9 is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Here is a pro-Life float in the huge and very solemn parade out in front of my house just now, in the Southside Park neighborhood of Sacramento. It started at, of course, Our Lady of Guadalupe at 7th and T, across from Southside Park, the park.

The lead float had a loudspeaker over which a woman was praying in Spanish, with 100 or so followers responding in rhythms so familiar to me from services I’ve been to in English, Spanish, and Latin over the years. Even when you don’t speak the language, Catholic prayers have a sound to them that feels unmistakable to me.

About 5 more floats followed…I’m going to guess it was a total of at least 500 people, maybe way more. Very solemn.
